About Believe In Talk

Children need and deserve the love and support of both their parents.

Believe In Talk is driven in our efforts to assist high conflict parents in being the best co-parents that they can possible be. Our goal is to create a supportive environment in which our clients can explore their emotional needs and overcome barriers that limit their full potential in the best interest of their child(ren).

More than one million children each year are affected by divorce & family separation. Half of these children will be raised in families where parents remain in conflict. Many of these parents engage in ongoing litigation over their child(ren) for years. Children raised in an atmosphere of unrelenting conflict are four to five times as likely to grow-up with serious emotional and behavioral difficulties. Not only are high-conflict cases damaging to innocent child(ren), they require an inordinate amount of court time & mental health services. Consequently, high-conflict divorces pose grave concerns for mental health & legal professionals. In order to minimize the adverse effects of divorce on children & families, many parents are encouraged or court ordered to work with a parenting coordinator.

Co-Parenting - for the BEST interest of the child(ren)

Co-parenting is when both parents work together as a team to raise their children even after the marriage or relationship is over. The main reason to work at co-parenting is to help your child deal with all the changes that happen when their parents are no longer together. Children not only face the challenges and changes of their parents' separation, but they are also going through emotional and developmental changes. Parents need to know how to deal with their own loss and the feelings of loss, which their children may be experiencing.Even though you may not want to talk to the other parent you still have a very important relationship, and it's the most important one of all; a parenting relationship.Children need the love and support of both parents. Parents who live apart can still provide time and dedication putting aside anger and conflict for the best interest of their child.Problems may arise in children such as behavioral problems, academic and emotional problems. Let's work together to help you understand through the eyes of your child what they may be experiencing.

Debbie is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern as well as a Registered Marriage and Family Counselor Intern in the state of Florida who is working toward licensure in both specialties, and I received a Dual Master's in Mental Counseling and Marriage and Family from Barry University University.
Debbie, is a Family Court Specialist at Family Court Services of the 11th Judicial Circuit. She is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator, working with high-conflict families within the Miami Dade County Domestic Relations Division; she works with parents and children by court referral to assist them in developing and carrying out time sharing schedules. Ms. Sedaka earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science with a double major in Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from Barry University. She believes in understanding one's challenges and roadblocks. She focuses on what clients want to achieve rather than on the problem(s) that made them seek help. The approach does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future. Debbie assists the client in opening the door to new attitudes as well as interest in changing our behaviors. Debbie practices solution focus and conversational therapy. These interactive approaches creates a partnership with the clients necessary for development of goals, healthy boundaries, and empowerment of the client for change. Directly communicating clients strengths and modeling new behavior offers the client the opportunity to achieve milestones leading to increased self-esteem and more satisfying relationships.
We should not use anger so often that it becomes an expected emotion. All of us, including our kids, love emotion. Once kids get used to a particular emotion-be it shame, anger, guilt, or love-that expected emotion becomes the emotion of choice.
